Panama is making great progress in its tourism industry, and the activity has become one of the most important drivers of the national economy. Panamanians are aware of this reality and thus devote our best efforts to promote the security and quality of tourism services for the benefit of our visitors, who are always welcome. Due to recent news publications that give incorrect information about the facts related to tourism, the Tourism Authority of Panama and the various guilds of tourism service providers in the country, wish to clarify certain facts for the benefit of national and international community. 1. A few days ago was an incident in which six tourists were attacked while conducting a tour of a community in a peripheral area of Panama City. The police authorities working on the case to find the criminals, and make investigations to establish responsibility, because there is no confirmation that the tour was hired by the tourists to one of the operating companies registered for this purpose. 2. In Panama, the tourism industry has made great efforts to improve services, tourism products and offerings, and has developed a successful international promotion of the country. The result is a significant increase in the number of visitors, a significant increase in the contribution of business to the national economy. 3. An important component of this success has been the security provided by the country as a tourist destination, which so far has been a very low rate of crime against tourists. The public and the private sector will develop joint plans to minimize the risks to tourists by establishing strict procedures and better coverage of the tourist areas, through collaboration between the Police of Tourism, the Tourism Authority and tourism enterprises. 5. The sensational can create a wrong perception about the safety and quality of tourism services offered by our country. The statistical reality suggests that there is a high level of satisfaction of tourists during his visit to Panama, and that the country offers visitors acceptable safety standards. Our country continues to give a warm welcome to those who visit us as we have done for centuries, and continue offering the best of ourselves and our nature. Thus, Panama is at the heart of those who know us.
