Panama golf tourism offers a variety of options for the avid golfer. From oceanfront to the highlands - Panama has all kinds of first-class golf courses, designed by Masters. In Panama City:
Club de Golf de Panama: This is one of Panama´s oldest facilities featuring an 18-hole, Par 70, championship course that stretches 7,043 yards. Club de Golf is a private facility and is host to the Nationwide Tour. Club de Golf has reciprocity agreements with many of the better golf clubs in the region, including the Lagunita Country Club in Caracas, Venezuela, Costa Rica Country Club and Cariari Country Club in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Summit Golf and Resort: Located about 30 minutes from downtown Panama City, it is the only semi-private facility in the area. The course, designed by Jeffrey Myers, features a 6,626 yard, Par 72 layout. Greens fees range from $64 during the weekdays, to $85 to on weekends.
Tucan Country Club & Resort: Located 15 minutes from downtown Panama City on the south-western banks of the Panama Canal, this course was formerly the HOROKO Golf Club built by the US military. The course has just finished a complete redesign by Jeffrey Meyers and been rebuilt to the highest international standards. In fact, it is now part of a gated community of 500 luxury condos and homes. The course has an 18-hole, Par 72 layout stretching 6,650 yards. Tucan is a private facility.
On the Coast:
Coronado Golf and Beach Resort: Located 83 kms [approx. 50 miles] from Panama City on the Pacific coast, this course was designed by Tom and George Fazio. Coronado was, until recently, considered one of the best courses in Central America. The course is a 7,092 yard , Par 72.
Vista Mar Golf & Beach Resort: Just a few miles down the road from Coronado is the new Vista Mar Resort, featuring an 18-hole, 7,273 yard, Par 72, championship golf course , designed by J. Michael Poellot. Nine holes are currently open, with the back nine scheduled to open in late 2008.
Mantaraya Golf Club: Located in the Royal Decameron Beach Resort in Farallon, about one and a half hours from Panama City. The 18-hole, Par 71 layout was designed by Randall Thompson in conjunction with the American Golf Course Design Company. Greens Fees start at $40 on weekdays and $65 on weekends.
In the Highlands:
Qebrada Grande Golf Club: A nine-hole, executive course in the residential community of Valle Escondido, Boquete. This is the only golf course in the world that plays through a working coffee plantation.
Cielo Paraiso: Now in development is the 18-hole championship course at Cielo Paraiso; a gated residential community in Boquete. This 7,245- yard course designed by J. Michael Poellot offers stunning views of the surrounding highlands and the Pacific Ocean in the distance.
As you can see, there is something for every golfer in Panama. Most courses have delicious gourmet food at their individual clubhouses, and/or on-site restaurants. The physical size of Panama means you can literally golf and dine at one premium course in the morning/afternoon, and another by evening. Inexpensive by international standards, top-notch facilities and amenities... A golfer s dream!
